OBJECTIVES

This programme is designed to equip students with the knowledge, skills, and practical

experience required to excel in the agricultural sector, with a specific focus on

sustainable horticulture and agronomy practices. This programme blends theoretical

learning with hands-on applications, providing an in-depth understanding of key

agricultural concepts such as plant physiology, soil management, water conservation,

and pest control. Students will explore diverse horticultural practices, including

ornamental gardening, vertical gardening, and sustainable crop production, tailored to

the unique environmental conditions of tropical island settings like the Maldives. The

curriculum emphasizes sustainability, innovation, and entrepreneurship, enabling

students to identify and develop business opportunities within the agricultural sector.

Through case studies, fieldwork, and project-based learning, students will also gain

insights into business planning, management, and operational strategies necessary for

running successful agricultural ventures. By completing this programme, students will be

well-equipped to address the challenges facing modern agriculture, including resource

management, climate change, and the economic viability of sustainable practices.

Graduates will be prepared to pursue careers in horticulture, agronomy, and agricultural

entrepreneurship, or to launch their own ventures within the growing field of

sustainable agriculture. The programme fosters both practical and theoretical expertise

in a dynamic, globally relevant industry.
