The college celebrated 50th Independence Day of Maldives by having an event at the auditorium of MNU faculty of Education on 26th August 2015. The event was named as an evening with poets (Lhenverinnaeku haveereh). The event was attended by the Chairman of the college Mr. Ahmed Mottaki, Rector of the college Dr. Aamaal Ali, Special invitees and students.
Chief Guest of the event was former minister Mr. Abdul Rasheedh Hussain who is a dignitary who has served the government of Maldives for a long period of time. In addition Mr. Abdulla Sodhiq from Maldives Academy of Dhivehi Language, Mr. Mohamed Nasheedh a former language teacher who is also a former member of parliament and Ms Shahuma participated as panelists for the event.
In this event the meaning of national songs were evaluated by the students and additional feed back to student evaluation was given by the panelist. The songs to be evaluated in the event were selected by student votes previously. The songs selected were Minivanvaya kulhelaashe thaaza.., Joshey genaimi gaumee ufaa…, and Mi raajeye reethi.. in the respective order.
To begin the event, meaning of one of the national song of Singapore was evaluated by the Rector Dr. Aamaal Ali. After that the meaning of a song ey magey gaumaaey.. was evaluated by the chief guest Mr. Abdul Rasheedh Hussain.
The purpose of the event was to inculcate patriotism among the students and develop love towards the nation, in the heart of future generation
